Meatballs with Tomato Sauce (click here to get the recipe)

During this class replay we’ll cook together the classic ‘ricetta della nonna’: polpette al sugo, meatballs with tomato sauce. It’s a recipe loved by most, especially Italian children. I’ll show you my secrets to make flavorful and juicy homemade meatballs.

We’ll make a luscious tomato sauce together, with extras you can use for 'scarpetta' or a side of pasta. If you wonder what Scarpetta is...Scarpetta is an Italian word that literally translates to "little shoe" in English. In Italian cuisine, it refers to the act of using a piece of bread to mop up sauce or leftover food on the plate. It's a common practice in Italy and is considered a sign of enjoyment and appreciation for the meal. I can still hear my grandma screaming when we left crumbs, sopping up this sauce from the pot with our pieces of bread!

Key Ingredients

  • canned tomato
  • ground beef
  • garlic, basil, parsley
  • milk
  • bread
  • Parmigiano cheese
  • egg

*You can substitute other ground meat, broth for milk, and gluten-free bread

Please reach out if you have questions and after trying this recipe out, I'd love to hear what you think!
